Hi, I’m Will.
I teach both ends of the lead.
I’m the trainer and founder of The Operant Dog. I help people across the Coffs Coast build clearer communication and more useful behaviour through modern, reinforcement-based training designed for everyday life.
My focus is not on creating dogs who simply follow commands. It is helping you understand how your dog learns, communicate more clearly and build skills that still work when the real world gets involved.
Good training should leave you more capable, not more dependent on your trainer.

Good coaching should not disappear when the session ends. You get a clear training plan, practical guidance and help applying it between sessions.
We look at the dog in front of us, what their behaviour is achieving and what will actually help in everyday life.
Thoughtful training that teaches your dog what works without relying on harsh corrections or intimidation.
Skills are developed to work at home, on walks and around the distractions that actually matter to you.
All training clients can send questions and short training videos via WhatsApp between sessions, so you can get feedback while you are actually putting the training into practice.

Which training option is right for us? +
Life Skills classes suit dogs who can learn around other dogs and people without becoming overwhelmed. If your dog reacts strongly or needs more space, start with Reactivity Support.
Do you use harsh corrections? +
No. Training is reinforcement-based and focused on clear communication, practical skills and helping dogs function more confidently in real environments.
Will this work outside training sessions? +
That is the goal. Training focuses on behaviours and skills that hold up in everyday life, not just controlled environments.
Why do you use structured programs instead of one-off sessions? +
Behaviour change takes more than learning what to do. Your dog needs time to practise new skills, build successful repetitions and gradually use them around greater distractions. A structured program lets us teach the foundations, see how your dog responds, adjust the training and build towards real-world use rather than handing you a checklist after one session.
Do I need previous training experience? +
No. Training meets dogs and handlers where they are, with practical guidance and structured progression throughout the process.
